Our approach

Straight answers from people who know your file

A & S Consultants is a local accountancy practice based on High Road in Chadwell Heath. We work with people who would rather be running their business than reconciling it — and we explain things in plain English, not jargon.

  • One point of contact who knows your business, not a call queue
  • Records kept digital and ready for Making Tax Digital
  • Deadlines mapped out early, so nothing arrives as a surprise
  • Meet us in Chadwell Heath by appointment, or work with us remotely

How it works

Getting started takes three steps

  1. 01

    Tell us about the business

A short conversation about what you do, how the records are kept now and what is coming up.

  2. 02

    We set things up

We agree the work and the fee in writing, handle the changeover from any previous accountant, and get the software in order.

  3. 03

    We keep it running

Returns and filings are prepared through the year, with the dates that matter flagged to you in advance.

Who we work with

Smaller businesses, and the people who run them

Most of our work is for owner-managed businesses and individuals across east London and Essex.

Sole traders & freelancers

Self Assessment, expenses and a record-keeping routine that fits around the actual work.

Key dates

Your tax year at a glance

The personal tax year runs from one 6 April to the next. These are the points in it that catch people out.

  1. 6 April

    New tax year begins

The year just ended is now the one you report on.

  2. 31 July

    Second payment on account

Due if you make payments on account towards next year’s bill.

  3. 5 October

    Register for Self Assessment

The deadline to tell HMRC if you are new to filing a return.

  4. 31 October

    Paper return deadline

Only if you file on paper. Filing online gives you until January.

  5. 31 January

    Online return and payment

The return, the balancing payment and the first payment on account.

Company deadlines run on your own year end instead: accounts are normally due nine months after it, and corporation tax nine months and a day after. Dates shown for general guidance and correct at 30 September 2026 — check GOV.UK, or ask us, before you act on them.

Making Tax Digital

The threshold is coming down each year

Qualifying income at which Making Tax Digital for Income Tax starts to apply, by the date it takes effect

If you are self-employed or a landlord, this is the change that affects how you keep records — not how much tax you pay. It starts once your combined self-employment and property income passes the threshold for that year.

  • Records kept digitally, rather than in a book or a spreadsheet at the year end
  • Updates sent to HMRC through the year, not just once after it
  • Software that is compatible with HMRC, set up and reconciled for you

Ask us where you stand

Thresholds and dates as announced and correct at 30 September 2026. They are set by government and can change — check GOV.UK, or ask us, before acting.

Next step

Start with a conversation, not a contract

Tell us what the business does and how the records are kept now. We will come back with what we would do and what it would cost.
